What is a lagging issue? Lagging occurs when there is a delay between your pen movement and the response on your screen. This delay can vary from just a fraction of a second to a few seconds.
Several factors can contribute to this problem, with some of the most common reasons being:
- Driver malfunction
- Improper driver installation
- Conflict with other software or apps
- Computer display setting
- Wireless connection problem
- Pen problem
Here are the steps that you can take to resolve this issue:
- If you are using a Windows computer or your Mac is running on MacOS Mojave or earlier, try using your tablet without the driver. Follow the articles below to uninstall the driver, disconnect your tablet from your computer, and reconnect it to your computer. If the tablet works fine without the driver, the issue is only caused by a driver malfunction. Follow Step #2 below to reinstall the driver.
- Reinstall the driver or install the latest version. Ensure you follow the proper steps and that no other tablet driver is installed on your computer. You may need to restart your computer after reinstalling the driver. (NOTE: Currently, only Windows, Mac, and Linux (Ubuntu) operating systems have drivers.)
- When installing the driver, ensure that all unnecessary applications are closed. For Windows computers, check your hidden icons and quit, close, or exit the unnecessary applications that are running in the background.
- On a Windows computer, ensure that the driver is granted administrator access. Go to "Settings" > "General" tab > click the "Administrator Privileges" button if you see it there, and wait for the driver to restart. Skip this step if you don't see it.
- If lagging only occurs on your drawing software:
- Check your drawing software settings and adjust the brush settings, such as jitter, smoothing, brush projection, etc. It is recommended that you keep the smoothing at a low value to avoid delays in your strokes.
- When using a Windows computer:
- Disable or enable Windows Ink in the driver.
Reminder: Ensure your drawing software uses the same protocol as your tablet driver. If your drawing program uses WinTab32, disable Windows Ink on your driver. Restart the driver after changing protocols: Windows Ink to WinTab32 and vice versa. - Repair WinTab32 on the driver. Go to "Settings" > "About" tab > "Software Diagnosis" > click "Repair" on the Wintab32 protocol.
- Disable or enable Windows Ink in the driver.
- If you have a pen display, go to your computer's display settings and make sure to set the pen display's refresh rate to 60 Hz.
- Try disabling flicks and sweeping gestures on your computer.
- On a Windows computer, open "Control Panel" > "Pen and Touch" (ensure you view by small or large icons, not by category).
- On the "Pen Options" tab, select the "Press and hold" option > click "Settings" below the list, then uncheck "Enable press and hold for right-clicking", and click "OK".
- Do the same for the "Touch" tab if your tablet doesn't have a touch function.
- Click "Apply".
- On a Windows computer, open "Control Panel" > "Pen and Touch" (ensure you view by small or large icons, not by category).
- If your tablet has a wireless connection, use the cable instead. Before connecting the cable, ensure you disconnect the Bluetooth connection or unplug the wireless receiver.
- Replace your pen nib with a new one.
If all steps fail to resolve your lagging issue, submit a ticket and provide the following:
- Serial number which can be found on the back of your tablet (starts with S/N)
- Order number - if still within warranty
- Computer operating system and its version
- Driver version - on the tablet driver, go to "Settings" > "About" tab
- Firmware version - on the tablet driver, go to "Settings" > "Device" tab
- Drawing programs and their versions - if lagging only occurs on the drawing program
- Link to a video of the lagging issue. Use a phone or external camera to capture your pen stroke and the lag that occurs on the screen. Ensure the video link is unrestricted.
